The Top 9 Baseball Fights of All Time, from ESPN
Nolan Ryan has to be the biggest badass in the history of baseball.
Blow-by-blow Recap:
-#9: Dave Winfield charges the mound twice. Only with Nolan Ryan did he actually land a punch, which sparked an 11-minute baseball riot.
-#8: George Bell charges the mound after getting beaned. The pitcher dodges, and Mo Vaugh charges from first base, taking Bell down.
-#7: Mike Sweeney dodges a blocking umpire and charges the mound, throwing his helmet at pitcher Jeff Weaver.
-#6: Chan Ho Park attempts a sacrifice bunt, and pitcher Tim Belcher tags him out. Chan Ho thought the tag was to forceful and JUMP KICKS Belcher in the face. Something out of Street Fighter II.
-#5: Gerald Williams is beaned by Pedro Martinez, and when Williams charges the mound, both benches clear. Martinez says of Williams, “There’s no crying in baseball.”
-#4: Izzy Alcantara is drilled by a pitch and promptly sidekicks the catcher in the face. He charges the mound where he dances around looking for a fight.
-#3: The Baltimore Orioles’ Armando Benitez nails a New York Yankees batter in the middle of the back with a pitch. Graham Lloyd and Darryl Strawberry both get their blows in.
-#2: Bert Campaneris is drilled in the ankle by a pitch. When he gets back up, he throws his bat at the pitcher.
-#1: Nolan Ryan digs Robin Ventura with a pitch, and Ventura charges the mound. Ryan gets Ventura in a headlock and punches him repeatedly. Glorious.
