Chicago Bears vs. St. Louis Cardinals Football Fight
A Bear on Cardinal series of brawls from the 1986 NFL preseason. Isn’t that the one time of the football year when they’re NOT trying to hurt each other?
Blow-by-blow Recap:
-The Chicago Bears have a first and 10 against the St. Louis Cardinals (yes, before they were in Arizona) on the 50.
-Chicago completes a 12-yard passing play to wide receiver Sanders.
-The camera cuts to the Chicago quarterback, who looks oddly concerned.
-BAM! A HUGE brawl has erupted on the sidelines. It’s 10 Cardinals players on 2 Bears players.
-The refs seem to have broken it up.
-Mike Ditka watches dispassionately. And spits.
-During the instant replay (a nasty punch by a Bears player who had been knocked over), ANOTHER brawl breaks out between St. Louis and Chicago.
-The head ref reads off a list of the Cards who are disqualified, and half the friggin’ football team just runs to the locker room in protest.
-The coaches argue with the referees.
-Everything gets settled, and the Cardinals have the ball back.
-William “the Refrigerator” Perry just lays into the St. Louis running back, pushing him back for a loss of yardage.
-After two other Bears join Perry in the tackle (including a nasty facemask), the Cardinals’ running back is down for the count.
